Liquid Storage Solution for Cruise Ships

Cruise Ship in Dry DockA west coast dry dock is bustling with business as major cruise lines bring their ships into port every two to three years for maintenance and repairs.

The addition of the larger cruise ships to the fleet requires a dry dock large enough to accommodate these vessels during repairs.  Some ships can be the size of a football field and few ports are large enough to accommodate these larger cruise liners.  A repair done last year prompted the cruise line to use a California port.

One of the largest cruise ships, housing up to 3,000 passengers and crew, was brought into port for a $10 million dollar retrofit.  After sailing every day for three years, the ship needed renovations to be completed within a two-week period.

During the repairs, the crew and staff live on the ship, which is virtually a floating hotel.  However, all of the ship's liquid storage functions are shut down creating a waste disposal problem.

The dry dock has used Rain for Rent for the past decade to provide tanks and spill protection to keep the ships functioning during these repairs.  To service the needs of this massive cruise ship, Rain for Rent provided thirteen 21,000-gallon steel tanks, Spillguards, hoses and fittings.

The maintenance and repairs were completed on time, and the dry dock anticipates continued use of Rain for Rent's services to handle future liquid storage needs.
