For years, effectively filtering cement wash water was a difficult task... now there's a solution!

Rain for Rent's Boston team found a unique water handling solution for the Aggregate Industry at a ready mix plant in MA. The Rain for Rent operations team provided a system to take high turbidity cement process water with a pH of over 11.0 down to a pH of 7.5. Best of all, as a result of the process used, the dissolved and suspended solids precipitated to leave not only pH balanced water, but water that has less than the typical discharge standard of 30 mg/L of total suspended solids (TSS). Typical results are 5 to 18 mg/L TSS WITHOUT any additional filtration.
When surplus process water was created at the ready mix plant, the only option available to the Aggregate Industries was to have the water hauled off site and disposed of at a cost of over $1.00 per gallon. After processing with Rain for Rent's ApHLmd (Automatic pH Lowering and Monitoring Device) was implemented, the cost to have the water disposed of was reduced 97% to $0.03 per gallon. The ApHLmd consists of a sand filter, small pump, and controls to monitor and inject CO2 treatment into the process water. First year savings for the plant will exceed $500,000.
This is yet another example of how Rain for Rent's ingenuity and engineering can provide liquid handling solutions for our customers.
